About Columbus

Columbus is an exciting young community with an abundance of character. It offers big-city amenities with a small-town quality of life, as well as the flavor and excitement of a Big Ten University town. As Ohio's capital, Columbus is not only a seat of government but also a cultural, educational, and recreational hub. It provides a bevy of family attractions, a vibrant arts community, world-class entertainment, and college and professional sports -- all of which are popular with our physicians, residents and staff.

Housing

Columbus housing choices range from downtown condominiums to suburban living. Among the many choices are Columbus' historic central neighborhoods, like German Village and Victorian Village, and its growing group of outlying communities, like Powell and New Albany. There are plenty of community and housing options to suit your needs, whatever your tastes may be.

Fine Food

You'll find truly international cuisine in Columbus, at everything from upscale restaurants in the Short North and Grandview, to lively bistros in German Village and popular suburban cafes. You can enjoy continental, Thai, deli, Italian, French, Chinese, Korean or just good old-fashioned "home cooking" at almost every turn.

Sports

For sports enthusiasts, Columbus offers a variety of sporting events and teams to enjoy. You can watch the Ohio State Buckeyes play the Michigan Wolverines in one of college football's greatest rivalries. You can support the Blue Jackets, Columbus' National Hockey League team, as they bring excitement to the bustling Arena District. You can also join fans of the Crew, the city's Major League Soccer team, the Clippers, its minor league baseball team, in sharing their sporting enthusiasm.

Music/Nightlife

Whether you like rock or reggae, Columbus offers a wide selection of concerts and music halls. You can see national acts perform in one of Columbus' large arenas Value City Arena or Nationwide Arena. Smaller venues, like the Newport Music Hall and Lifestyle Communities Pavilion, put on over 400 concerts per year. For weekend fun or a simple game of pool, you can visit one of Columbus' many bars and nightclubs, too.

Art/Museums/Zoo

Columbus-area residents enjoy an array of art establishments and museums, including the Columbus Museum of Art, Wexner Center for the Performing Arts, COSI (an interactive science museum), and the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium. In addition, the Short North is home to galleries and boutiques where art lovers can view photography, sculpture, glass art, and painting. There is a Gallery Hop there the first Saturday of every month.

Theatres/Movies

Downtown Columbus hosts nationally touring Broadway and performing arts exhibitions. The Palace Theater, the Ohio Theater, and the Southern Theater have staged productions of Miss Saigon, Stomp, The Phantom of the Opera, and Rent, as well as yearly offerings from Opera Columbus. There are also many venues where you can catch a movie. A number of convenient theater mulitplexes and the Arena Grand Theater offer mainstream movie-viewing, and the Drexel theaters show rare and independent films. For a unique live performance, visit Shadowbox Cabaret for music, theater and comedy.

Shopping

In the mood to shop? You'll love Polaris Fashion Place, a multi-level mall that numbers Saks Fifth Avenue and The Great Indoors among its many stores. Easton Town Center is a charming outdoor shopping mall with a movie house and Nordstrom, plus dozens of boutiques and restaurants. And, there's also the Mall at Tuttle Crossing, with Macy's and more.
