Strategic Diversity Initiatives
Strategic Diversity Initiatives There are seven key elements that will contribute to transforming the culture of Mount Carmel and ensuring a diverse and inclusive environment. These elements are being incorporated into a three-year diversity and inclusion implementation work plan.

To ensure a transformation in the culture of Mount Carmel, we will:

Commitment & Accountability

  • Commit resources, both financial and human, that are necessary to ensure that diversity and inclusion remains a top priority for Mount Carmel.
  • Encourage and reward a courageous leadership team that is willing to take risks and create opportunities for our diverse associates and new hires.
  • Hold leaders accountable for creating an environment within their roles of responsibility that supports diversity and inclusion by making it a part of their annual evaluations.

Training & Education

  • Educate associates, physicians and Board members at Mount Carmel on the “why, what and how” of diversity and inclusion.
  • To the best of our ability, ensure that a patient's healthcare experience within Mount Carmel will be tailored to meet their cultural differences.

Recruitment

  • Create recruitment strategies that support our ability to hire key talent throughout the organization.
  • Provide clear metrics that measure and track the success of our diversity efforts.
  • Ensure that we have diverse associates (management and hourly) within Mount Carmel that represent the communities we serve.

Retention & Development

  • Create retention strategies that support our ability to retain key talent throughout the organization.
  • Create development/career plans for top talent across the organization.
  • Identify leadership development opportunities for associates to learn and grow.

Communication

  • Ensure that diversity and inclusion is incorporated into internal and external communication materials that represent Mount Carmel.

Community Partner

  • Ensure that community organizations representative of diverse groups are partners regarding outreach and delivery of culturally competent care.

Supplier Diversity

  • Enhance economic development and further Mount Carmel's community partner philosophy and procurement practices, including minority and women-owned businesses.
