For patients with atrial fibrillation for whom traditional treatments haven’t been effective, Mount Carmel offers an innovative treatment called atrial fibrillation ablation, which, in some patients, can offer a cure for the condition.
With ablation, the tissue that causes atrial fibrillation is destroyed, or ablated, either epicardial (outside) or endocardial (inside) with catheters using radiofrequency energy or cryoablation. Ablation is a technique Mount Carmel physicians specialize in, and one we’ve been using for more than 15 years.
Treatment for atrial fibrillation can be performed by a Cardiac Electrophysiologist or Cardiothoracic Surgeon, and physicians from both specialties review each patient’s case before determining the best approach.
