Mount Carmel Health System to Be Preferred Provider for Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Health Insurance Exchange Plans
Collaboration will also help explain Affordable Care Act to consumers and provide new tools and information on how to access coverage
Columbus, OH – Oct. 22, 2013 – Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield and Mount Carmel Health System have announced that Mount Carmel will be a preferred provider for Anthem insurance plans that are part of the new federal Health Insurance Marketplace (exchange) for central Ohio. Created as part of the Affordable Care Act, the Health Insurance Marketplace is where individuals and small groups may purchase federally qualified health care plans.
Under the agreement, Mount Carmel will serve as a preferred provider for residents of central Ohio who purchase an Anthem insurance plan on the new Health Insurance Marketplace. The agreement includes all Mount Carmel facilities: Mount Carmel East, Mount Carmel West, Mount Carmel St. Ann’s and Mount Carmel New Albany. Nationwide Children’s Hospital is also an Anthem preferred provider for central Ohio.
Anthem and Mount Carmel have also launched a joint campaign to educate local consumers about the new health care reform law and provide them with information on how to access coverage and understand other changes they may experience as a result of the Affordable Care Act. This educational collaboration between two trusted leaders in health and wellness means consumers can have easy access to the information they need to understand the changing health care landscape right in their own neighborhoods.
“Thanks to this effort, our patients and members of our communities will be able to find materials and attend educational sessions at their local Mount Carmel facilities,” said Keith T. Coleman, Senior Vice President & Chief Financial Officer for Mount Carmel Health System. “These materials and educational sessions will help them understand the new benefits and protections available as a result of the Affordable Care Act and learn how to purchase health care coverage that meets their families’ needs.”
Consumers also can find information at the Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield educational website, healthcarereformforyou.com, which provides a comprehensive guide to the law with detailed information on benefits, financial assistance, the enrollment process and other topics.
“Mount Carmel has a proven track record of delivering high quality, patient centric care to central Ohio patients and their families. We are pleased to align with them to provide consumers who purchase health insurance through the Marketplace with access to greater value and more affordable health benefits solutions,” said Scott Gerhart, Regional Vice President of Provider Engagement & Strategy for Anthem. “We feel Mount Carmel is uniquely positioned in regards to location, cost and quality to be a strong and willing partner as we enter into this extraordinary new phase of health care.”
Beginning Jan. 1, 2014, Anthem will offer a variety of product options on the Ohio Health Insurance Marketplace for both individuals and small employers. Members choosing products through the exchange will have in-network benefits only by accessing preferred providers like Mount Carmel, those who collaborate with us to help provide affordable, quality care.
The Affordable Care Act mandates that all individuals have some sort of private, governmental, or employer-sponsored health insurance by Jan.1, 2014. Enrollment in Ohio’s Health Insurance Exchange began Oct. 1.
