Mount Carmel Pickerington Violet Festival Supports Local Food Pantry

PICKERINGTON, Ohio – The Mount Carmel Pickerington Violet Festival recently presented a check for $5,000 to the PCMA Food Pantry of Pickerington. The funds were earmarked from the Festival’s 2012 proceeds.

“The Violet Festival is pleased to be able to provide this donation to the local food pantry,” said Dan Heitmeyer, president of the Pickerington Violet Festival board. “It is important to our board that we make an investment in the local Pickerington community. The food pantry serves an important mission for area residents, especially at this time of year, and we’re glad to be able to help them help those in need.”

The Violet Festival generates income from sponsorships and admission fees to produce a four-day festival in July. Mount Carmel is the title sponsor for the Festival.

Susan Hite, president of the PCMA Food Pantry board of trustees, and Gary Weltlich, chairman of the Food Pantry’s fundraising committee, accepted the check from Heitmeyer, Daryl Reynolds, Violet Festival treasurer, and Randy Holloway, Violet Festival board member, at the December 20 meeting of the Pickerington Chamber of Commerce.

“We are extremely grateful for this donation from the Violet Festival to the PCMA Food Pantry of Pickerington,” said Susan Hite, president of the Food Pantry’s board of trustees. “We served 4,885 individuals in the Pickerington Local School District community during 2012. We rely on the generosity of individuals, businesses, schools, grants from United Way and Fairfield County Foundation, and civic organizations like the Violet Festival to make this happen. We are proud to be a partner in this event that serves the community and supports those in need.”

The Pickerington Violet Festival is an all-volunteer 501(c) 3 organization that plans and presents a four-day celebration of the community, offering a variety of fun, food, and entertainment for the whole family. Now in its 16th year, the Festival draws more than 40,000 visitors from central Ohio and the region.

The 2013 Festival will take place July 24 – 27. Tickets will be available in advance at the Key Bank office on Rt. 256 or at the door. More information about the events and activities planned for the 2013 Festival is available at www.VioletFestval.org.
