Recovering from a disabling injury or illness can be challenging. Often rehabilitation services are necessary to help patients return to their highest functioning level, whether they’ve experienced a traumatic illness or injury, an orthopedic or work-related injury, or are coping with a chronic condition. At Mount Carmel, our team of physical therapists, occupational therapists, exercise physiologists, speech therapists, audiologists and certified athletic trainers help our patients get back to their work, their home, their family and their life.
Aquatic Therapy
By
reducing the effects of body weight during rehabilitation, warm water therapy
in our therapeutic temperature pool can reduce pain, increase strength and
endurance, improve range of motion and expedite healing.
Audiology
Mount
Carmel Audiological Services tests and diagnoses hearing disorders in infants
and children and hearing loss and balance disorders in adults. Our audiologists
assess the extent of hearing loss, balance and related disorders and recommend
treatment, including hearing aids. They also select, fit, and dispense hearing aids,
and educate consumers and professionals on the prevention of hearing loss.
Hand Therapy
Hand
therapy helps increase range-of-motion, flexibility, strength and functional
use of the hand. Our certified hand therapist and occupational therapists
provide evaluations and treatment for those with significant loss of hand and
arm function due to injury or disease, including specialized exercise programs
and customized splints.
Occupational Rehabilitation
Mount Carmel's Occupational Rehabilitation Program provides specialized
services to help injured workers regain the physical capacities and skills
necessary to return to work. Our staff works closely with each patient, as well
as their physician and employer/case manager, to meet their individual needs.
Occupational Therapy
Occupational
therapy at Mount Carmel involves specialized programs
that address range of motion, strength and coordination in order to improve a patient's ability to work and participate in daily activities.
Orthopedic Rehabilitation
Mount
Carmel's physical and occupational therapists provide specialized
treatment for people with injuries or illnesses of the skeletal system,
muscles, tendons and soft tissue. We provide specialized therapy for neck and
back pain, shoulder tendonitis/impingement, rotator cuff injuries, carpal
tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow, knee and ankle sprains, hip, knee and other
joint replacements and arthritis.
We also offer a
pre-operative class for patients undergoing joint replacement surgery.
Physical Therapy
Mount
Carmel's experienced physical therapists can help patients develop,
maintain or regain maximum movement and functional abilities for all aspects of
your life. Therapy programs typically involve specialized exercise, physical
manipulation and other techniques to promote health, injury prevention and rehabilitation
following an injury or illness.
Rehab
Day Treatment Program
The
Rehab Day Treatment Program (RDT) is an outpatient rehabilitation program for
patients with neurological impairments. The program is aimed at improving
patients' independence in the areas of self-care, home management and community
re-entry, and enhancing their work or volunteer options. Patients receive
individual and group therapy with our highly trained team of physical,
occupational and speech therapists.
Speech Therapy
Speech,
language and swallowing disorders can affect anyone at any age. Mount Carmel's highly
trained and experienced therapists provide effective treatment for articulation
and speech disorders, poor vocal quality, stuttering, language disorders, cognitive
impairments and swallowing disorders.
Speech Therapy Dysphagia Program
Mount
Carmel offers a progressive new procedure called VitalStim™, which
uses external electrical stimulation to "re-educate" the pharynegeal muscles
and help reestablish functional swallowing patterns.
Sports Rehabilitation
For patients who have suffered a sports injury, a supervised exercise and hands-on-therapy program using state-of-the art equipment can get them back in the game. Our team of physicians, physical therapists, exercise
physiologists
and athletic trainers will develop rehab programs specific to the injury and performance
goals.
Vestibular
Rehabilitation
Vestibular
rehabilitation addresses problems with dizziness or balance resulting from an
inner ear imbalance or hearing loss. Therapists with special training use
exercise techniques to help relieve symptoms and improve our patients' ability to
work and perform normal daily activities.
