Operative Experience

Operative experiences are wide-ranging, varying according to the needs of patients at the time that each resident is on service. Over the course of five years, a resident typically performs more than 1,200 operative procedures, including 350 major procedures during the fifth year. Residents are exposed to a wide variety of procedures, including a large number of laparoscopic procedures. Extensive and early first year operative experience is a hallmark of the program. The following charts show major procedure averages for our three Chief Residents as well an example of our early operative exposure for first year residents:
