Harry E. Ezell, M.D.

We are pleased to honor the distinguished service of Harry E. Ezell, M.D. by naming him a Mount Carmel Physician of the Year for 2011.

Dr. Harry Ezell graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1944. He attended Vanderbilt University Hospital for an internship from September 1944 until July, 1945 when he joined the United States Army Air Corps. He was a Captain when he was discharged in 1947. He then attended Mount Carmel Hospital from May, 1947 – January 1948. He completed his OB/GYN Residency at Ohio State University Hospital in July, 1951.

Dr. Ezell became a member of the Medical Staff of Mount Carmel Hospital in June, 1951. Dr. Ezell served on many committees during his tenure at Mount Carmel, including the Medical Advisory Board, Cancer Activity, Credentials, Library, Medical Education, Medical Records, Search, Surgical Administrative, Utilization, Operating Room and East Admissions. He also served as Department Chairman in 1957, 1969, 1973-76. He was the President of the Medical Staff in 1963.

Dr. Ezell retired from the Medical Staff in 1987 and was granted “Honorary” member of the Mount Carmel Medical Staff. This is a title reserved for physician outstanding reputations and contributions to medicine, the community and the hospital. We are honored to recognize Dr. Ezell as one of our 2011 Physician of the Year recipients.
