Mount Carmel offers a revolutionary new process for treating harmful tumors that does not require an invasive procedure or anesthesia. It's called the CyberKnifeÆ system, and it uses image guidance technology and computer-controlled robotics to track and destroy tumors while also accounting for changes in tumor location due to breathing and normal internal movements.
CyberKnife is an alternative to, or complement for, traditional radiation therapy. The machine has the ability to deliver precise beams of high-dose radiation to a wide range of locations, including those in the brain, spine, lung, liver, pancreas and prostate. It's a painless and non-invasive procedure, and since it's done on an outpatient basis, patients are able to go home immediately.
The CyberKnife is the first robotic radiosurgery machine in central Ohio, and it's located exclusively at Columbus CyberKnife on the Mount Carmel St. Ann's campus in Westerville. Columbus CyberKnife is a partnership between local physicians, Mount Carmel and US Radiosurgery, and offers patients the most advanced CyberKnife technology currently available.
