A cancer diagnosis is difficult enough without having immediate access to cancer education, helpful resources and health professionals who know and care.
That's why Mount Carmel created the First Steps to Survivorship program. It's a special informational program designed for those newly diagnosed with cancer. The program will give you a base on which to build your knowledge and a foundation for support to help you feel confident and in control of your care and survivorship.
A Valuable Hour
First Steps to Survivorship is a one-time, hour-long session that will introduce you to Mount Carmel Oncology Services, make cancer care easier to understand and navigate, and familiarize you with affiliated care providers and community services that can help.
You'll learn about the value of an interdisciplinary care team, the importance of clear communication and record keeping among you and your medical team, how and where to gather helpful information about your diagnosis and care, the importance of nutrition and exercise, where to get the support you need, and how to share your news with others. In addition to written materials, you'll also receive key contact information and have the opportunity to ask questions.
All Are Welcome
First Steps To Survivorship is ideal for anyone diagnosed with any form of cancer, and family members and friends are welcome to attend.
The program is scheduled twice a month to accommodate busy schedules. Classes are held the second Wednesday of each month from 10:00 to 11:00 AM and the fourth Wednesday from 6:00 to 7:00 PM. All are held at Jan's Place, our cancer resource center on the Mount Carmel St. Ann's campus in Westerville.
