Dr. James Smith
We are pleased to honor the distinguished service of James H. Smith, M.D. by naming him the Mount Carmel Most Valuable Physician for 2013.
Dr. James Smith graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine in March, 1990. He completed his internship in internal medicine from Evanston Hospital in 1991, and his residency from Ohio State University Hospital in 1993. Dr. Smith completed a fellowship in Infectious Disease from Ohio State University Hospital in 1995. He joined the Mount Carmel Health Medical Staff in 1996.
Throughout his tenure at Mount Carmel, he has assisted the Pharmacy with formulary decision-making regarding antibiotics and antiviral medications. Dr. Smith has been Co-Chairman of the Mount Carmel Health Infection Control Committee since 2001, and a standing member of the Committee since 1996. From 2010 to 2011, he was the Program Director of the Antibiotic Stewardship Program. Dr. Smith served as Chairman of the Mount Carmel East Department of Medicine and a member of the Mount Carmel East Clinical Department Council from 2005 to 2010.
Dr. Smith’s commitment to quality of care in Infectious Disease has proven to be a valuable component in the care of Mount Carmel patients for the past 17 years. We are honored to recognize the accomplishments of Dr. James H. Smith as the first recipient of the Mount Carmel Health Most Valuable Physician award.
