At Mount Carmel, our intense residency programs are focused on developing
confident pharmacy professionals who can provide excellent pharmaceutical care
to patients in acute and ambulatory settings. Our programs combine a flexible
structure that accommodates individual needs and interests with a schedule of
rotations that offers residents the widest possible range of practice and
clinical opportunities.
12-Month PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency
Available at Mount Carmel West and Mount Carmel St. Ann’s,
our 12-month ASHP accredited program provides in-depth training and experience in hospital pharmacy management that emphasizes directing, organizing, planning, staffing
and management, budgeting and reporting; strengthens problem-solving and
decision-making skills; and helps transform accumulated knowledge and
experience into new and improved services. You’ll learn to evaluate drug
literature and prepare monographs; gain experience in formulary development,
medication usage evaluations, medication safety programs and conference
presentations; and develop solid teaching and communication skills through
professional education programs, conferences, committees and collaboration with
physicians.
Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Pharmacy Practice
Residency Rotations
The 12-month program at Mount Carmel St. Ann’s allows you to
choose:
- Four 4-8 week inpatient core rotations (General Medicine, Palliative Care, Critical Care, and Family Practice)
- One longitudinal or 4 week ambulatory rotation (Anticoagulation Clinic, Family Practice, Infectious Diseases or Oncology)
- One 4-week
pharmacy practice-management rotation
- One 4-week
elective rotation (Cardiology, Emergency Medicine, Infectious Diseases, Neonatal Intensive Care, Pulmonary Diseases, Nutritional Support)
- One Longitudinal Drug Information rotation (includes handing information requests, journal clubs, drug usage evaluations, and participating on the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee)
Mount Carmel West Pharmacy Practice Residency
Rotations
The 12-month program at Mount Carmel West allows you to choose:
- Three 8-week
inpatient rotations (choose from cardiology, critical care, general
med/surgery and oncology)
- One 4-week
ambulatory rotation with a monthly longitudinal component (choose either anticoagulation clinic or internal medicine)
- One 4-week drug
information rotation (includes handling information requests,
writing/editing articles and gaining valuable experience in database
management)
- One 4-week
pharmacy practice-management rotation
- One 4-week elective
rotation (emergency medicine, infectious disease, nutritional support,
informatics, surgery, medication assistance, or other rotations may be developed based upon the resident’s interests)
The 24-month administrative residency at Mount Carmel West
combines rigorous academics at The Ohio State University with management-focused projects and practice
rotations that will not only teach you valuable management skills, but will
develop your leadership abilities as well. You’ll work with the pharmacy
director, pharmacy managers and hospital administrators, and attend leadership
retreats and meetings.

Mount Carmel West Pharmacy Administrative Residency/ M.S.Program
During the first year of your residency you’ll participate
in:

Year two will consist of several intense rotations, including:

Throughout the second year of your residency, you’ll gain extensive
clinical and pharmacy-management experience.
