Conference Descriptions
Mount Carmel's Department of CME offers a variety of quality category 1 lectures throughout the year. The CME program is accredited by the Ohio State Medical Association (OSMA) to provide CME for physicians. Each lecture listed below has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas, Elements, and Policies of the OSMA.

Oncology Conference (Tumor Board) - West

This is a weekly patient-oriented educational and consultative conference at which unusual oncology management problems are presented to a multidisciplinary audience. Recent advances in knowledge and currently available strategies are reviewed, and treatment protocols are determined for the oncology patient. Each educational activity is designated for a maximum of one category 1 credit toward the American Medical Association (AMA) Physician Recognition Award (PRA).

Oncology Conference (Tumor Board) - East

This is a bi-monthly patient-oriented educational and consultative conference at which unusual oncology management problems are presented to a multidisciplinary audience. Recent advances in knowledge and currently available strategies are reviewed, and treatment protocols are determined for the oncology patient. Each educational activity is designated for a maximum of one category 1 credit toward the AMA PRA.

CME at MCE

This is a monthly lecture series designed for medical staff members and other health professionals. Its purpose is to provide new and/or current information regarding all aspects of medical care and professional practice. Each educational activity is designated for a maximum of one category 1 credit toward the AMA PRA.

Mount Carmel West Grand Rounds

This is a monthly series of presentations and panels that address issues of common interest related to internal medicine, family practice, obstetrics and gynecology, and other specialties. Its purpose is to provide new and/or current information for attending practice in both the hospital and the office setting. Each educational activity is designated for a maximum of one category 1 credit toward the AMA PRA.

Multidisciplinary Trauma Rounds

This is a monthly series at which trauma-related patient cases are presented for discussion from a multidisciplinary point-of-view. Management strategies are determined by participating faculty and residents, including general surgery, orthopaedics, neurosurgery, radiology, emergency medicine, urology, and plastic surgery. Each educational activity is designated for a maximum of one category 1 credit toward the AMA PRA.

Obstetrics and Gynecology Grand Rounds

This is an ongoing lecture series held on various Wednesdays throughout the month. The primary focus of this lecture is to provide current and updated information regarding all aspects of medical care related to obstetrics and gynecology. Each educational activity is designated for a maximum of one category 1 credit toward the AMA PRA.

Orthopaedic Citywide Grand Rounds

This conference rotates between teaching hospitals in the city. The conference is designed to update physicians on new techniques and controversial issues in orthopaedics and to provide a review of surgical and nonoperative management problems. Each educational activity is designated for a maximum of one category 1 credit toward the AMA PRA.

Jointly Sponsored Lecture Series

Mount Carmel offers jointly sponsored lectures off-site in rural communities as evening and/or afternoon series. Physicians from various specialties address clinical issues and updates of importance to their communities from the primary care perspective. Each educational activity is designated for a maximum of one category 1 credit toward the AMA PRA.
