Application Process
If you are interested in applying to our General Surgery Categorical or Preliminary Residency Program, here are some recommendations/guidelines to help you get started.

We do not mail out applications. All applications must be submitted electronically via the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). In addition to applying through the NRMP, the following application information must be received no later than January 1 of each recruitment year in order for your application to be considered:

  • Dean's Letter (or equivalent). International Medical Graduates (IMGs) must have letters of recommendation that clearly document United States clinical experience
  • Three additional letters of recommendation from United States physicians
  • Medical school transcript
  • Personal statement
  • USMLE Part I or AOBME Part I Board scores, first time pass
  • USMLE Part II or AOBME Part II Board scores, first time pass
  • For all non-LCME schools, at least one year previous experience within the United States healthcare system is preferred

All IMGs must be permanent residents or United States citizens. We do not sponsor any type of visa.

Once all of the above information is collected through ERAS, your application will be reviewed by the Program Director and the Assistant Program Directors. Personal interviews are by invitation only and are held numerous times during December and January. If you have been selected for an interview, you will receive an e-mail invitation to interview from the Program Administrator.

If you have further questions on how to apply, please call 614-234-1444 to receive step-by-step instructions about our application process. If, after listening to the pre-recorded instructions, you still have questions about our program, click here to e-mail the Program Administrator.
