The Ohio State University-Mount Carmel Health Obstetrics/Gynecology Residency
Program offers a comprehensive program that addresses the full spectrum of OB/GYN
practice. Residents emerge from the program with competency in a broad range
of OB/GYN specialties, as well as significant hands-on experience with a variety
of patient populations and practice settings. What follows are descriptions of
program rotations, as well as a sample calendar that details activities during
a typical week at Mount Carmel West in the Department of OB/GYN.
Ten residents serve at Mount Carmel West at any one time.
- PGY-1: Two residents cover labor & delivery.
- PGY-2: One resident is responsible for the antepartum
admissions.
One resident is assigned to gynecology-oncology.
- PGY-3: Two residents are assigned to benign gynecology
services and surgery.
- PGY-4: One resident works with the gynecology-oncology
team. One resident is the chief on labor & delivery.
One resident is the chief of clinical gynecology surgery and urogynecology.
- One
resident (PGY-1 or PGY-2) is the night float person, which ensures that
the 80-hour workweek is adhered to.
All residents rotate through the Mount Carmel West program two to three
months per year, either for four to six weeks at a time through two rotations
or for a continuous two to three months.
Four residents rotate at Mount Carmel St. Ann's and are involved with surgery and obstetrics.
