The Mount Carmel Health System Orthopaedic Residency Training Program has been
in existence since 1945. It is a 5-year program that is fully accredited by the
ACGME. The residency program offers two positions per year and participates in
the National Residency Match Program (NRMP).
Residents are delegated progressively greater responsibilities as their skills
and judgment grow. During PGY-5, participants operate relatively independently
as chief residents for procedures for which they have demonstrated capabilities.
The unique strength of our orthopaedic residency at Mount Carmel is rooted
in the high caliber of individuals who match with our program. Each prospective
candidate is encouraged to explore the program and to meet with attending faculty
at Mount Carmel. It is highly recommended that medical students spend time with our program, even for a day and/or set up a rotation. Our aim is to select residents who fit the mission and philosophy
of the institution and to provide them with a rich and rewarding educational
experience.
Upon completion of the Mount Carmel Orthopaedic Residency Training Program,
the graduate will possess a solid knowledge base and will have developed sound
decision-making and technical skills. We strive to provide a well-rounded educational
experience in all aspects of orthopaedic surgery so that our graduates are
prepared to directly enter an orthopaedic practice. Residents who have chosen
to pursue fellowship training have been very successful in obtaining competitive
positions in a variety of orthopaedic subspecialties. |
