Program Highlights
The Mount Carmel Orthopaedics Residency Program offers an excellent residency experience. The highlights of the program include:

Educational Experience

  • Early operative experience
  • Exceptional academic curriculum and conference schedule (see Table 1)
  • All rotations take place in Columbus; residents are never required to leave their families and homes for rotations out of the city
  • Dedicated time for the study of Orthopaedic Basic Science and Anatomy
  • Optional research elective
  • Optional three month elective at Mount Carmel East Hospital in orthopaedic subspecialty of choice as Chief Resident
  • Well-rounded exposure to orthopaedic subspecialty areas, including staff members with fellowship training in the following areas:
  • Adult Reconstruction
  • Foot and Ankle
  • Hand and Upper Extremity
  • Orthopaedic Traumatology
  • Pediatric Orthopaedics
  • Spine
  • Sports Medicine
  • Shoulder and Elbow Surgery

Facilities and Support Staff

  • New state-of-the-art on-campus ambulatory surgery center
  • New multimillion dollar health science library with three full-time librarians
  • Newly remodeled office space to accommodate all orthopaedic residents
  • Dedicated orthopaedic inpatient unit, with subspecialty orthopaedic nurses and cast technician
  • Supportive Medical Education Department
  • Formal instruction in statistical design and analysis, and access to biostatistician for assistance with manuscript preparation
  • Private resident fitness area, with commercial-grade fitness equipment
  • Remodeled resident physician lounge area

Orthopaedic Conferences

  • The resident will select one national conference per year to attend
  • In additional to the above, the PGY-3 residents attend a Musculoskeletal Oncology Conference, and PGY-5 residents attend a Board Review Course
  • Research presentations at local, regional, or national orthopaedic meetings will also be financially supported by the Department of Medical Education
