For more than a century, Mount Carmel has made excellence its mission, both in
patient care and medical education. Our medical staff has built a reputation
for quality, innovation, and leadership. More than 150 members of the medical
staff are classified as teaching faculty.
Our teaching faculty is one reason Mount Carmel boasts a rich history of postgraduate medical education. Our Department of Graduate Medical Education includes six outstanding residency programs: Family Practice, General Surgery, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Orthopaedics, and Transitional Year. Each of these residency programs has unique features and boasts outstanding achievements. Here are some highlights:
- Family Practice residents have extensive involvement in shaping and governing
curricular decisions within the Family Practice residency program.
- The General Surgery Program has a 97% pass rate on the Qualifying Examination of the American Board of Surgery over the last 15 years, and a 100% first time pass rate on the Certifying Examination (Orals). They have also had no citation on the last two RRC evaluations and received 5 year review intervals from both reviews.
- The Internal Medicine Residency Program boasts a 92% passage rate on the ABIM certifying examination for the last three years.
- The Ohio State University and Mount Carmel Health System integrated their
Obstetrics/Gynecology residencies in 1995. Our program combines the superb
facilities and high-volume of Mount Carmel with the excellent resources
of The Ohio State University.
- In 60 years, 100% of graduates from the Orthopaedic Residency Training
Program have passed Step I of the ABOS on the first attempt.
- Transitional Year residents have gone on to careers in various specialties
well-prepared for the challenges that awaited them.
