Mount Carmel
offers programs in Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE). CPE students minister to
patients, families and staff at all three Mount Carmel hospitals, providing
needed spiritual services, comfort and support. Mount
Carmel's CPE program is accredited by The Association for Clinical
Pastoral Education, Inc. to offer Level I and Level II CPE.
Application & Admission
Admission requirements and CPE applications are available through Mount Carmel
West Chaplaincy Services. Simply send the completed form, including a
non-refundable $25 application fee, to the attention of the CPE supervisor. You
will be required to participate in an admissions interview conducted by the CPE
supervisor, Rev. Hanci Newberry.
Upcoming Program Offerings
Extended CPE Unit
September 9, 2008 - April 16, 2008
This program is part-time. Classes are usually held on Thursdays, with
flexible patient visiting time and some weekend hours as well.
Summer Full-Time CPE Unit
June 1 - August 7, 2009
This program requires 40+ hours per week for 10 weeks, including some weekend hours.
Tuition & Costs
- Application Fee (Non-Refundable): $25
- Deposit on Tuition (Non-Refundable): $225
- Single Unit Tuition: $500
- Second Unit Tuition: $350
- Other Costs: books, transportation, TB test, meals while onsite
The application fee is applied to tuition
upon acceptance into the program. The balance of tuition is due the first day
of the unit.
Full-Time Clergy & Hospital Chaplains
Full-time clergy and employed hospital chaplains have the option of applying
approved ministry time done in the hospital, synagogue or parish toward the CPE
program's required clinical hours.
Parking & Meals
CPE students receive free parking in designated parking areas and may purchase
meals with an employee discount in the hospital cafeteria. Students also receive
a complimentary meal when on-call.
