Mount Carmel offers a variety of support groups to provide companionship, understanding and emotional support for patients and their families. Click on the support group name below to view detailed information.
Bariatric Emotional Support Group

Group Details

This group is a place of encouragement and hope for post-surgery patients who would like some assistance coping with the emotional and social issues that can arise from having bariatric surgery. For more information and location call 614-234-LIFE (5433).

Third Wednesday of each month, 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.

Bariatric Nutrition Support Group

Group Details

Facilitated by our Bariatric Dietitian, this group offers ongoing nutrition education and support for Mount Carmel patients who are post-surgery. There are open discussions about weight management techniques and advice on eating healthy at restaurants, reading food labels, healthy snacking and more. Participants must call 614-234-LIFE (5433) to pre-register.

First Monday of each month (with the exception of holidays which are rescheduled for the second Monday of each month), 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.

Bariatric Surgery Support Group

Group Details

Learn from Mount Carmel medical professionals and receive emotional support from others who’ve shared the bariatric surgery experience. Includes ongoing patient advocacy, a recipe swap and annual fashion show

Breast Cancer Support Group

Group Details

This group provides emotional support for and from women living with breast cancer. Led by social workers, and registered nurses, these groups are ongoing. Join any time. Call 614-546-4180 for further information.

Breastfeeding Support Group

Group Details

Breastfeeding provides many benefits for both you and your baby, but it can be challenging. Please join us and our certified lactation consultant as she offers you a chance to learn, ask questions, get good advice and share your experiences with other moms in a private, nurturing environment. Babies are welcome. For more information call 614-234-MILK (6455).

Crime and Trauma Assistance

This program provides specialized professional assistance to victims of crime and trauma. Available to adults and children, the program facilitates recovery through education and therapeutic intervention in both individual and group sessions. Participants must call and schedule for initial intake meeting prior to attending any groups. All sessions are held at Mount Carmel West. Therapy Groups

Circle of Hope: For Female Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse
This 12-week group focuses on support, processing, coping skills, and therapeutic processing for women 18 and older. Members must be working concurrently with an individual therapist in the community to participate in this group.

Healing Circle: For Female Survivors of Sexual Assault
This 10-week therapy group is for women 18 years old and older, who are survivors of sexual assault, and is designed to offer support, coping techniques, and therapeutic processing.

Trauma Group for Parents and Children
This is an eight week group for 9-12 year olds who have experienced a traumatic event. Parents will attend “Caring for Children Who Have Experienced Trauma” while their child attends a trauma-focused group to improve feeling expression, learn coping strategies, and process traumatic memories.

Survivors’ Voices
This is a group therapy experience for male and female survivors of violent crimes that provide education, support, coping skills, and therapeutic processing.

Psychoeducational Group

Trauma Response and Stabilization

This is a psychoeducational group for men and women who have survived a violent crime. Participants receive basic information on the effects of trauma, along with numerous opportunities to learn techniques for understanding and managing those effects.

Diabetes Support Group

Group Details

Join others with diabetes who are coping with the same challenges you face. These fun, informal sessions include educational topics and guest speakers. Friends and family are welcome. Call 614-546-4582 for more information.

Grief Process Support Group (Free)

Group Details

Professional facilitators offer support and comfort on the loss of a mate, friend or family member. Participants have the opportunity to speak with others in a similar situation, receive educational materials or sit together in healing silence. Call 614-234-0265 to register.

Haven of Hope at the Zangmeister Center

Group Details

If you’re a cancer survivor who’s looking to restore the balance in your life, Haven of Hope provides free resources and programs that can help, including therapeutic yoga, support groups, educational programs, a resource library and Licensed Social Workers. For more information call 614-383-6256.

Pregnancy and Infant Loss Support Group

Group Details

This monthly support group provides comfort and education in the grieving process. For individuals, couples, and family members who have experienced pregnancy loss through miscarriage, stillbirth, or ectopic pregnancy, or who have lost a newborn or infant. Call 234-5999 to register.

Parents of Preemies Support Group

Group Details

The early arrival of a child can bring about feelings of grief that can linger. The loss of a dream pregnancy, the rollercoaster of the NICU, and the possible ongoing medical and developmental issues can be difficult. Discussing your struggles with a clinical social worker and a mother of preemies through this class can help you heal. Call 614-234-1043 to register.

Stroke Support Group (Free)

Group Details

This is an informal meeting developed to educate patients, families, and the community about the process of stroke recovery. Experts guide group interactions and present guest speakers and educational videos. Call 614-234-3905 for more information and locations. Transportation assistance may be available.

Cancer Support Community -- Central Ohio

Group Details

No matter where you are on your journey through cancer, Cancer Support Community -- Central Ohio offers a variety of professionally led educational and support programs – all at no cost.
