| The Physician of the Year award was established in 1985 to recognize physicians who have made significant contributions to the growth and development of Mount Carmel. Now in its 22nd successful year, this award celebrates the accomplishments and careers of some of Mount Carmel's finest physicians. Each year, an honoree is selected from both Mount Carmel East and Mount Carmel West. To be eligible for the award, physicians must meet the following criteria:
- The physician's primary hospital must be Mount Carmel East or Mount Carmel West
- The physician must have honorary or posthumous status or be a practicing physician with 30 or more years of service to Mount Carmel
- The physician must be or have been instrumental to the growth of Mount Carmel
- The physician must have made contributions to one or more of the following: patient care, medical education, Medical Staff leadership or community service
