At Mount Carmel, we offer the
latest techniques in cardiothoracic surgery. Our
surgeons are among the
most experienced in central Ohio
and offer some of the most innovative procedures available.
We take a multidisciplinary approach to heart surgery, and our
physicians, nurses, and clinicians are specially trained to handle complex
cases. They're well versed not only in established surgical techniques like
coronary artery bypass surgery and heart valve repair and replacement, but also
in progressive techniques like endoscopic vein harvesting, concominant atrial
fibrillation ablation and beating heart surgery.
Mount Carmel East and West both have dedicated open-heart ICUs
with state-of-the-art tools and specially trained staffs. And because we are
committed to improving the quality of care that our cardiothoracic surgery
patients receive, we're also participants in the STS National Database Outcomes
Program.
Arrhythmia Management
If
For heart rhythm disturbances that require a surgical solution, our
physicians can
implant an arrhythmia control device such as a
pacemaker or implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD). Mount
Carmel physicians perform more than 700 ICD and 600 pacemaker
implants annually.
Beating Heart Surgery
Mount
Carmel offers beating heart coronary artery bypass surgery
and boasts one of the highest volumes for this procedure in the state of Ohio. Unlike traditional
bypass surgery, which artificially replaces the heart's functions with a
heart-lung machine, this procedure allows the heart to keep beating during
surgery. As a result, many of the complications experienced with traditional
bypass surgery are significantly reduced.
Coronary
Artery Bypass Surgery
Mount Carmel offers traditional surgical procedures to treat heart
disease, including coronary artery bypass surgery. Our
physicians are
well versed
not only in the prevailing surgical measures and technologies, but also in
progressive techniques such as endoscopic vein harvesting and concominant
atrial fibrillation ablation.
Heart Valve Repair and Replacement
Even
though the arteries may be fine, a patient's heart's valves can cause problems.
Fortunately, Mount Carmel offers
procedures
to repair or replace defective heart
valves.
