Mount Carmel has an active research program that involves dozens of clinical trials sponsored by top pharmaceutical companies and the National Cancer Institute (NCI). As a result, many Mount Carmel patients have the opportunity to enroll in clinical trials offering new or advanced treatments. Among these are new drugs, contemporary drug combinations, innovative devices and pioneering treatment programs. By participating in a clinical trial, patients can receive the most advanced care while helping researchers uncover new ways to treat disease.
Our investigators are conducting more than 100 active research protocols. Mount Carmel also has access to over 100 NCI-sponsored clinical trials and other oncology cooperative programs.
Mount Carmel's charter membership in the Columbus Community Clinical Oncology Program (CCCOP) allows participating physicians and their patients access to clinical trials through affiliations with national research cooperative groups. We also support industry-sponsored Investigational New Drug (IND) and Investigational Device Exemption (IDE) trials, which are designed to study new drug therapies and new medical devices.
Mount Carmel has been successfully enrolling patients in clinical trials for over 20 years, and continues to exceed the "commendable" standard set by the American College of Surgeons. Our major areas of investigation include Heart & Vascular Clinical Trials, Oncology Clinical Trials and Surgery Clinical Trials.
