The Mount Carmel Diabetes
Self-Management Program is a collection of classes, consultations and a support
group that put patients in touch with the demands of their disease and people
who can help them manage it.
The Diabetes
Self-Management Program at Mount Carmel has been recognized by
the American Diabetes Association for Quality Self-Management Education. To
learn more, call 614-546-4582. A physician referral is required.
Type
2 Basics Class
For those suffering from Type 2 diabetes, our three-session basics class
provides information to help manage the disease with confidence. Classes are
taught by Certified Diabetes Educators and are small enough to provide plenty
of individual attention.
The first two sessions are held one week apart, and the final session is
scheduled three to six months later. Both daytime and evening classes are offered, and support people are
welcome to attend.
Injectable
Medication Training
For those who use injectable medication for their diabetes, we've created a
training program that covers everything about insulin, Byetta and Symlin
therapy.
Taught by Certified Diabetes
Educators this training program is generally conducted one on one, and is an
ideal way to learn the benefits and effects of medication and the importance of
other aspects like timing, record keeping and site rotation.
Private
Consultation
Private consultations are available for diabetes patients with immediate or
special needs.
Appointments can be
scheduled during normal business hours and cover many of the same topics as our
Type II Basics class.
Each session is
designed specifically to meet the needs of the individual patient
involved.
Diabetes Support
Group
Mount Carmel offers a free diabetes support
group to help patients cope with the challenges of managing their disease.
The informal sessions provide patients with
the chance to receive information about diabetes and diabetes care, learn from
guest speakers and meet others confronting similar issues.
A physician referral is not required, and
friends and family are welcome.
