Cancer Program Data
A comprehensive cancer program provides the means to monitor all cancers diagnosed and/or first treated at an institution. This is a critical component when evaluating cancer care. Aggregating data helps health care professionals understand patterns, incidence, morbidity and patient survival.

Mount Carmel has maintained an active cancer data center since 1955. Under the direction of the Network Cancer Committee, the Mount Carmel Cancer Data Center focuses on collecting, managing, and reporting data related to demographics, primary/metastatic sites, histologic type, grade of tumor, AJCC stage, and first course of treatment. Lifetime follow-up is also maintained on every cancer patient diagnosed or first treated at a Mount Carmel facility. This data contributes to treatment planning, staging, and continuity of care for oncology patients.

The Mount Carmel Cancer Data Center maintains strict patient confidentiality through established procedures that are evaluated annually. Internal statistics are available for research studies, publications, and grant applications. These statistics are also used to determine the feasibility of new programs and to establish the need for educational offerings.

At this time, 34,483 patients are included in the registry database. Over 13,000 living patients are actively being followed. Mount Carmel maintains a 92 follow-up rate, which exceeds the requirements of the American College of Surgeon's Committee on Cancer.
