Heart Failure
Heart failure is a weakening of the heart’s pumping power. With heart failure, the body doesn’t get enough oxygen and nutrients to meet its needs. Heart failure is the most common hospital admission diagnosis in patients age 65 or older and is associated with severe functional impairments and high rates of mortality and morbidity. Scientific research indicates that the following four measures represent best practice in the treatment of heart failure. Mount Carmel data is for May 2009 - October 2009. Ohio and national data is from the Hospital Compare website and is for April 2008 - March 2009. Instances with fewer than 25 caes are too small to reliably predict hospital performance.
