Vincent Barresi, M.D.

We are pleased to honor the distinguished service of Vincent Barresi, M.D. by naming him the Mount Carmel Lifetime Achievement Honoree for 2013.

Dr. Vincent Barresi, M.D.

Dr. Vincent Barresi graduated from the Downstate Medical Center, Brooklyn, New York in 1965. After completing his internship and one year of medical residency at Maimonides Medical Center, Brooklyn, New York, he joined the United States Navy in 1967. He completed a tour of duty, as a physician, with the United States Marine Corp in Vietnam and one additional year of active duty at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. He remained in the inactive naval reserve for an additional three years. He completed his second year of medical residency at the University of Pennsylvania and remained there for two additional years in a Cardiology Fellowship. Dr. Barresi then completed a third year of fellowship training, in cardiology, at the Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center. His first position as a cardiologist was at Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he was an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine and Co-Director of the Cardiac Catheterization laboratories.

Dr. Barresi joined the Medical Staff of Mount Carmel Health in May, 1979, when he joined Cardiology, Inc. Dr. Barresi was active in the development of the present day cardiovascular service at Mount Carmel. Dr. Barresi served on many committees during his tenure at Mount Carmel: Medical Staff Planning & Development Committee; Quality Evaluation; Medical Care Evaluation Committee; and the Ohio Heart Network. He served as Chairman of the Mount Carmel East Ethics Advisory Committee, as well as serving as the Chairman for the Facilitation and the Medical Records Subcommittees. Dr. Barresi also served as the Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Lab at Mount Carmel West.

He was elected Chairman of the Department of Medicine at Mount Carmel East in 2000, and became a member to the Mount Carmel East Clinical Department Council. He then served as President of the Medical Staff in 2002. In recent years Dr. Barresi has been a valued member of the Mount Carmel Health Credentials Committee which he continues to attend. He is particularly proud to have received the Teacher of the Year Award in the Department of Medicine for 1981-1982.

Dr. Barresi retired from the Medical Staff in April, 2012, and was granted Honorary staff status. We are honored to recognize the accomplishments of Dr. Vincent Barresi as the first recipient of the Mount Carmel Health Lifetime Achievement award.
