Over 50? It’s time to get a colonoscopy. |
|
While everyone age 50 or older should get a colonoscopy, no one wants to. Understandably so. But the fact is it’s the best way to prevent colon cancer. And though it’s the second-deadliest form of cancer in the U.S., colon cancer is among the most curable – even preventable – when it’s caught early.
Colon cancer affects people regardless of race, sex, economic status or geography. There often are no symptoms. That’s why it’s so important to get screened if you:
- Are 45 and older and African-American
- Are 50 or older
- Are 40 or older and have a family history of polyps or colon or rectal cancer
- Have a history of cancer or polyps found earlier
March is colorectal cancer awareness month and an ideal time to schedule your screening. It only takes an hour, it’s covered by most insurance, and it just might save your life.
