Geriatrics Fellowship

Welcome to Mount Carmel Geriatrics! Mount Carmel Health is a large, tertiary-care healthcare system serving central Ohio, with our Geriatrics Fellowship and Graduate Medical Education office operating out of Mount Carmel Grove City; a beautifully modern 240 bed, 7 story hospital and the city’s first full-service hospital with a full complement of subspecialties. It’s an exciting time for Geriatrics, both nationally and at Mount Carmel. The United States currently only has about 20% of the geriatricians they need to care for its aging population. Therefore, the breadth of opportunities available to Geriatricians is rapidly expanding. As a physician specially-trained in Geriatrics, you’ll find a magnitude of career opportunities, including inpatient consultative care, ACE (Acute Care of the Elderly) Unit Medical Directorship, PACE (Program for All-Incisive Care of the Elderly) Medical Directorship, outpatient assessment and co-managed care with Oncology, Orthopedics, Trauma, Surgery, Cardiology and Internal/Family Medicine, residential and skilled-care Medical Directorship, and end-of-life care with Hospice & Palliative Medicine. Geriatric academic medicine is also thriving as healthcare systems rush to implement services and training programs that better align with their community needs and demographics. With board-certification in Geriatrics, your specialized skillset affords you a unique position to spearhead these initiatives in positions of leadership.

To gain experience in these areas, you need to choose a fellowship that understands the future of Geriatrics as a partner in other subspecialties, an innovator in clinical academics, and an expert contributor to senior healthcare management. This is reflected in our unique rotations and their curriculum, the sophistication of our research staff and specialized training centers, and opportunities in the community such as Mount Carmel’s Church Partnerships.

We also recognize that Geriatric Medicine is underserved medicine, and therefore we want to prepare you to understand the unique challenges this population faces when accessing and navigating their medical care. Mount Carmel Health partners beautifully with this mission through their Population Health and Hospital at Home programs. Mount Carmel is growing in Geriatrics, which means you can grow and innovate with us! Starting in May 2021, our fellowship will be open for applicants. Please see the Application Process tab under the Geriatrics Fellowship Program. We want to help you get started on this exciting career path. Please contact our office for questions and inquiries, and the best of luck to you on your journey.
