Pulmonary Hypertension

While hypertension, also known as high blood pressure, is a fairly well-known condition, pulmonary hypertension (PH) or pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), is less so. PH is high blood pressure that occurs in the lungs, and it is a chronic disease that, if left untreated, can lead to heart failure.

While there’s currently no cure for Pulmonary Hypertension, there are a number of different treatment options available to manage the disease, and Mount Carmel is here to help you get access to that treatment and the support you need to feel better.

Services & Benefits

Located on the Mount Carmel East campus, the Mount Carmel Pulmonary Hypertension Center specializes in PH disease management. Through consultation, testing, education, medication and lifestyle changes, we work one-on-one with you to manage your symptoms and closely monitor your progress. Our comprehensive treatment program offers all therapies, including parenteral prostacyclin, to help you improve your long-term prognosis and lead a fuller life. We also work hand-in-hand with your physician to keep them informed of your progress.

Our Team

The Mount Carmel Pulmonary Hypertension Program is led by Dr. Dan Gorbett. Dr. Gorbett is board-certified in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine with additional training in pulmonary hypertension. Our PH team also includes a specialized nurse coordinator who has more than 15 years’ experience in pulmonary hypertension and will work closely with you to implement your treatment plan.

Insurance

Pulmonary Hypertension treatment is covered by most major insurance, and you will not need to be pre-certified to schedule an appointment at the Mount Carmel Pulmonary Hypertension Center. You will, however, need pre-certification for many of the medications that may be available to you, and our nurse coordinator will be happy to assist with that process.
