Mount Carmel is proud to offer FREE community seminars and events throughout central Ohio to address a variety of important health-related concerns. Most community seminars are offered in small-group settings so our presenters can hear and answer as many of your questions as possible.

Colon Cancer Coalition Get Your Rear in Gear - July 23, 2016

Mount Carmel is proud to sponsor the Colon Cancer Coalition's Get Your Read in Fear 5K Run/Walk and Kids' Fun Run at Creekside Plaza in Gahanna, Ohio. This event raises funds for colon cancer awareness efforts in the Columbus, Ohio, community and will be used to encourage screening and education efforts.

By running or walking in this race you are playing an intricate part in providing healthcare to individuals who would not have access to it otherwise. SoulCollage - August 4, 2016

SoulCollage is a process for assessing oneself by creating a personalized deck of cards, with each card representing a personality trait or part of the cancer journey.

The process is fun, creative and therapeutic. As cards are created, personal themes and patterns emerge. The instructor will work with participants to interpret patterns. Together as a community we will share a time for guided imagery, card making and card reading.

No experience is necessary. All materials are provided free of charge.

Your Reconstructive Options - September 8, 2016

Led by Gregory Holland, MD

Breast reconstruction can be done at the time of a mastectomy or at some point afterward - even weeks, months or years later.

This free program will discuss immediate and delayed breast reconstruction, while weighing the pros and cons of each procedure. It will also discuss various options for how surgical procedures to restore breast shape after cancer are done. A light dinner is included.

Working on Me: Creativity Workshop for Survivors - September 17, 2016

These unique workshops are open to all women regardless of diagnosis and are designed to provide tips to improve overall health and help survivors lead a healthier lifestyle. Each workshop is different, yet shares a theme of self-improvement and enhancing creativity. For the September workshop, patients will create and assemble a community prayer flag as well as participate in a morning Tai Chi session.

Participants will receive an introduction to Tai Chi, a slow, rhythmic and meditative body movement practice designed to enhance flexibility and relaxation. Each participant will also create a decorative flag square communicating hope and positivity from wherever they are in their journey. The completed project will be displayed in Mount Carmel's Cancer Survivorship Center.
