If you're interested in providing a valued community service, pursuing personal growth, continuing a lifetime of learning, or returning a kindness shown to you while you were a patient, Mount Carmel has a unique variety of volunteer opportunities to match your interest.
Our more than 800 volunteers work with patients, families and staff to create an environment of care and support by greeting and escorting patients and visitors, delivering meals to patients, supporting families in waiting areas, and performing hourly comfort rounds to patients. Volunteers generally serve one four-hour shift per week. We ask that you make a commitment of at least six months.
For adults over the age of 18, please complete the online application below for the site where you’re interested in serving. For teens age 16-17, please call the site you’re interested in serving for information on current opportunities. Please ensure your current schedule can accommodate volunteering. Once your application has been received you’ll be contacted regarding next steps.
If selected, you’ll be offered an interview so that we can best match your skills and talents with our available openings. If you’re a positive match for our team, we’ll ask you to provide photo identification and complete paperwork to initiate a background check. For the safety of our patients, guests and staff, we conduct criminal background checks on all adult volunteers. Please note we also require all volunteers to provide documentation of or receive the flu vaccine.
Before beginning as a volunteer, you’ll be asked to attend an orientation session, where we’ll share important information about safety, confidentiality, infection control, customer service and other topics with you. Orientation sessions are generally held one time per month. With all the steps involved, the process from application to starting in your role as a volunteer may take several weeks. But please be patient. We greatly appreciate your interest and want to ensure the safety of both you and our patients.
As a volunteer you’ll wear a uniform top and identification badge. The procedures surrounding both will be discussed at orientation. The cost of a uniform top is currently $15 and can be purchased during orientation. At orientation, you’ll also learn about the benefits provided in return for the generous service you’re providing to the hospital, including free parking, gift shop and cafeteria discounts, rewards and recognition, and meal allowances.
If you have any questions about volunteering at Mount Carmel or the process of becoming a volunteer, please contact the site you’re interested in serving. We look forward to having you join our team!
