Columbus – The Ohio Hospital Association (OHA) selected Mount Carmel Health System as one of 12 recipients of the Melvin Creeley Environmental Leadership Award. Winners were announced on Earth Day, April 22. This is the third straight year Mount Carmel has won the award.

Mount Carmel was recognized for its increased recycling efforts, food composting and initiatives driven by the Mount Carmel Green Team. The Green Team is a system-wide group that promotes environmental sustainability and pollution prevention.

“At Mount Carmel, we are working to fulfill our mission of improving the health of the communities we serve, and this includes the environment," said Christine Browning, Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer." We are extremely proud that the Ohio Hospital Association has recognized the hard work of our colleagues, physicians and volunteers.”

Named after Mel Creeley, retired CEO from East Liverpool City Hospital and past chair of OHA’s Environmental Leadership Council, the award recognizes hospitals for promoting sound practices through environmental stewardship.

Winners of the Mel Creeley Award are also considered for OHA’s John Chapman Award, which recognizes a hospital or health system that demonstrates excellence in initiating or supporting pollution prevention programs. OHA selected University Hospitals of Cleveland as the honoree in 2014. Mount Carmel was the 2013 recipient of John Chapman Award.
