Sr. Joy O'Grady


Sister Joy O’GradySister Joy O’Grady has been a Family Counselor since graduating from the University of Michigan, School of Social Work, in 1980. From 1980-82, she served as therapist and team leader at Oaklawn Psychiatric Center until she opened a private practice, CSC Consultation Center on the campus of St. Mary’s College, Notre Dame, Indiana. Sister continues this ministry on a part-time basis today.

From 1994-1999, Sister Joy served as Area Coordinator for the Midwest region of her congregation, having canonical responsibility for about 250 sisters throughout the Mid-West region.

In 2004, Sister Joy was elected President of her International Congregation serving about 450 sisters throughout North America, Asia, Africa, South America and Mexico.

Over the course of her professional career, Sister Joy served as therapist in various inter-faith agencies and as clinical supervisor for seminary and pre-med students from Notre Dame University.

Sister has a Master’s Degree in Social Work (University of Michigan) and a Bachelor in Psychology (Saint Mary’s College). She is licensed as a Clinical Therapist in the State of Indiana and is certified in Family Systems therapy.

She has been active on various boards and committees including: Mount Carmel Health System (Columbus, OH), St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center (South Bend and Plymouth campuses), Saint Joseph’s Health System Corporate Board (Mishawaka, IN ), The Center for Continuing Formation for Ministry, and Oaklawn Psychiatric Center.

Sister Joy is currently a member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, Academy of Certified Social Workers, and the National Association of Social Workers. She lives in Notre Dame, Indiana.
