Diversity and Inclusion

Diversity and Inclusion Statement

Mount Carmel Graduate Medical Education (GME) aligns its diversity and inclusion efforts with Mount Carmel and Trinity Health's Mission and Core Values to care for self, colleagues and those we serve. Diversity celebrates individual differences, while inclusion joins the diverse members of a group into a cohesive whole. In addition, we uphold the mission of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) which is to improve healthcare and population health by assessing and advancing the quality of resident physician's education.

As a Catholic healthcare system, we value the dignity and individuality of every colleague, patient and their families by providing a culturally welcoming environment that promotes health and healing for all. We believe that everyone benefits from an inclusive environment where diversity is valued and embraced. Specifically, we value the divergent perspectives and contributions that are founded in individual differences in gender, race, age, national or ethnic origin, sexual orientation, thought, ancestry, religion, marital or parental status, physical or mental disability, education, veteran status, citizenship, genetic makeup or any other cultural characteristic.

Mount Carmel GME recognizes the importance of promoting diversity and inclusion for the future of healthcare. Our dedication includes developing a diverse and unified workforce of physicians prepared to serve diverse communities of today and in the future. We will meet this goal by incorporating diversity and inclusion practices across all aspects of recruitment, retention, training, education, and development of residents and faculty members.
