The members of Mount Carmel's Transitional Year Residency Program are a diverse group of physicians who contribute inspiring perspectives on healthcare and medicine.

Ty Gilkey, MD

Ty Gilkey, MD

  • Undergrad: Penn State University Major:  Biology
  • Medical Special Interest: Dermatology
  • Future Plans:  Dermatology Residency at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, NC
  • Outside Interests: Basketball, tennis, golf, exploring new restaurants and happy hours, traveling
  • Why I chose Mount Carmel: I chose Mount Carmel because of the extremely well-rounded academic curriculum, along with opportunities to conduct research and explore outside of dermatology. Additionally, the flexibility that Mount Carmel provides allows me to tailor a schedule that fits my needs. I also love the location, which is the perfect distance from downtown attractions while still being extremely easy to commute to in the morning.

 

Jordan Lamb, MD

Jordan Lamb, MD

  • Future Plans: Dermatology Residency at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, MO
  • Outside Interests: Food – cooking, baking, trying new restaurants/bars/breweries; staying active – spinning, lifting weights, roller skating, basketball, and golf; traveling and spending time with family and friends
  • Why I chose Mount Carmel:  Mount Carmel stood out to me because the TY residents I met during my interview and second look were the happiest I’d seen on the interview trail! I also really appreciate the program’s emphasis and support of clinical research, as well as the balanced curriculum with the flexibility to pursue specialty electives that will enhance my future career. Additionally, Columbus is such a fun city and close to all of my family and friends!

  • Future Plans: Dermatology Residency at George Washington University, Washington D.C.
  • Outside Interests: Golf, exercising, trying new restaurants, and spending time with friends and family.
  • Why I chose Mount Carmel: I chose Mount Carmel because this program combines excellent clinical training with superior resident support. The balanced curriculum gives you many opportunities to pursue your own educational interests. I was especially drawn to the family-like atmosphere I felt during my interview and on-campus visit.

  • Undergrad: Harvard University  Major: Molecular and Cellular Biology
  • Medical Special Interest: Diagnostic Radiology
  • Future Plans: Diagnostic Radiology Residency at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, MO
  • Outside Interests: Visiting Civil War battlefields and reading fiction. Currently, I’ve been working my way through the Sherlock Holmes series.
  • Why I chose Mount Carmel: When I visited Mount Carmel early in the interview season, I really liked the faculty, the residents, and the hospital itself. The program offers a well-rounded experience in a multitude of different specialties that can enable me to be a confident radiologist and sharpen my research skills. We also loved Columbus as a city and felt it would be an exciting place to spend an intern year.
