Rotations
Residency Program Structure
The Mount Carmel Health System PGY-1 Residency Program will be a 12-month, rotation-based experience. There are seven one-month required core rotation experiences. Residents will choose three (3) one-month elective rotation experiences. Residents will also have required longitudinal rotation experiences that will last between 6 and 12 months. Residents may elect (if available) to participate in elective longitudinal rotation experiences that will last between 6 and 12 months.

The residency program is designed to provide a flexible structure to accommodate the particular needs and interests of the resident. The various rotations available enable the resident to be exposed to a variety of practice and clinical experiences.
Note: A resident may not complete more than 4 rotations of a similar patient population. For example, the resident is required to do 2 critical care rotations (General Critical Care at MCGC and STICU or Neuro ICU at MCE). The Emergency Medicine rotation is considered a similar patient population as the critical care rotations. So, if the resident decides to participate in the Emergency Medicine elective and another Critical Care elective, they will not be able to pick a 3rd elective in Critical Care.
2/3 of the resident’s experiences also are required to be in direct patient care areas.
Per ASHP Residency Standards, a minimum of 2/3 of the residency program must be completed as a pharmacist licensed to practice in the state of Ohio.
