New Albany, Ohio — U.S. News & World Report, the global authority on hospital rankings and consumer advice, has named Mount Carmel New Albany as a 2022-2023 High Performing hospital for back surgery, hip fracture, hip replacement, and knee replacement. This is the highest award a hospital can earn for U.S. News’ Best Hospitals Procedures & Conditions ratings, signifying that the care was significantly better than the national average, as measured by factors like patient outcomes.

The annual Procedures & Conditions ratings are designed to assist patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive care for challenging health conditions or elective procedures.

The Mount Carmel New Albany specialty hospital is uniquely positioned to support inpatient and outpatient orthopedic care. The hospital features technologically advanced treatments combined with an expert team of orthopedic surgeons skilled in several progressive treatments including arthroscopic surgery and complex joint replacements to support and improve patients’ health and quality of life.

The facility’s hip and knee joint replacement certification, designated to only a select group of hospitals in the United States, in addition to its disease-specific certification in spine surgery from The Joint Commission, further backs the facility’s capabilities to treat complex orthopedic cases. Mount Carmel’s orthopedic team also participates in cutting-edge research on hip replacement techniques and technologies that allow them to stay ahead of the surgical curve.

“Our successful patient outcomes paired with our high quality of patient care at Mount Carmel New Albany have led to our accomplishments in these specialty areas,” said Lorraine Lutton, president and CEO, Mount Carmel Health System. “To have achieved U.S. News & World Report recognition showcases our colleagues and surgeons’ commitment and dedication to clinical quality and providing exceptional care to our patients.”

For the 2022-2023 Best Hospitals rankings and ratings, U.S. News evaluated more than 4,500 hospitals across 15 specialties and 20 procedures and conditions. Fewer than half of all hospitals received any High Performing rating.

“When patients are considering their options for care, the Best Hospitals ratings are designed to help them identify hospitals that excel in the kind of care they may need,” said Ben Harder, chief of health analysis and managing editor at U.S. News.  “A hospital that’s earned a High Performing rating in a service may be a good option for patients in need of that service and their medical professionals to consider.”

The U.S. News Procedures & Conditions methodology is based entirely on objective measures of quality such as survival rates, patient experience, and how successfully each hospital helps patients get back home.
