Doula Services
Because you deserve a birth experience as special as your little one, Mount Carmel has created Columbus and central Ohio's first hospital-based doula program. A doula is a highly-trained, experienced labor and birth professional who will assist you during your labor and delivery. Our doulas will provide constant knowledgeable support, as well as assistance with non-medical aspects of your care.
Some of the advantages of having a birth doula include:
- Continuous emotional, knowledgeable support
- Answering questions about what to expect
- Suggesting position changes during labor and different pain management techniques
- Easing your fears and giving you reassurance and confidence
- Helping you develop your birth preferences list
- Breathing through contractions
- Massage
- Facilitating communication between you and your family and caregivers
Once a month we host "Meet the Doulas Night," which allows you the opportunity to meet the doulas at Mount Carmel, learn more about the program and have your questions answered. These events are free, children are welcome to attend and registration is not required. Below are dates for upcoming "Meet the Doulas Night" events at Mount Carmel St. Ann's from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. unless otherwise noted:
- Mount Carmel St. Ann's - Conference Room B
- July 11
- September 12
- October 10
- November 14
Having a birth doula present during the birth experience has proven to result in shorter labors requiring fewer medical interventions, fewer cesareans, and healthier babies who breastfeed more easily and for longer. Mount Carmel values the assistance doulas give and the benefits they provide to both mom and baby. Thanks to generous funding from the Mount Carmel Foundation, this program is available to moms delivering at Mount Carmel East, Mount Carmel Grove City and Mount Carmel St. Ann's for $400.
