Annie’s Story

Annie Quintrell Before

What was the turning point in your life when you decided to pursue weight-loss surgery?

I’m a grandma, and I couldn’t get down and play with my grandkids the way I wanted to. I was ready for a better, healthier life. Most of my family was overweight, and my sister was successful taking weight-loss medication. After looking into weight-loss medication, I discovered that it is very expensive. So, for me, it wasn’t a good long-term solution. I had a relative who had bariatric surgery, and I saw the success she had. It was then that I had a consultation with Dr. Miller. I lost 30 pounds prior to surgery. I had my sleeve surgery on March 9, 2022. Now, I’ve lost 100 pounds and am at my goal weight!

How has having weight-loss surgery changed your life for the better?

I now have the energy to be more involved with my kids and grandkids. I feel lighter, and I don’t have the aches and pains that I had previously. Plus, I’m off almost all my medication. Mentally, I feel so much better about myself! I used to hate going shopping, but now I enjoy it.

What are the biggest changes you’ve experienced since your surgery?

My relationship with food has changed. I changed the way I eat, which wasn’t too difficult, just different. I am now eating to live, not living to eat. My relationships with other people have improved also.

What would you say to someone who is considering weight-loss surgery?

Do it! Take the consultation and see if it’s going to be right for you. My husband is going through the process right now. It helps to make a connection with someone who has gone through it already. Between all the classes, I also did the online webinars and support groups. The only regret I have is not doing it sooner!
