What is Your Calling
Mount Carmel's Internal Medicine Residency program offers you the opportunity to gain real-world practice while working with doctors who value practical knowledge and community integration.
One of the first questions you’ll get from our faculty is, “Why did you go into medicine?” That original calling is what you’ll be encouraged to pursue here. You’ll also have several rotations each year where you’ll have the time and opportunity to dream and execute projects that highlight your unique approach to medicine.
Our program is designed to be flexible enough to allow you to work with local organizations and become a part of the community. We believe moving medicine forward involves more than academics and numbers; it involves treating the whole person and the myriad of factors that make up human health. The more you’re involved in the community, the more you’ll be able to explore those factors.
Being in a community program like ours will help you learn cost and time efficiency. You’ll also learn effective billing and develop quality improvement (QI) projects that will help get employers’ attention after graduation.
In the last 5 years, residents have followed their dreams in pursuing work as hospitalists, outpatient physicians, and academic faculty. They have also secured Fellowships in: Sleep Medicine, Nephrology, Pulmonary/Critical Care, Transplant Infectious Disease, Infectious Disease, Hematology/Oncology, Sports Medicine, Gastroenterology, Rheumatology, and Endocrinology. Those graduating residents who have chosen to pursue careers in hospital medicine have been competitively recruited across the region and the country.
Because of our small class sizes, we pay more attention to personal wellness and mentorship. That means you’ll learn how to develop relationships with providers who can further advance your career, regardless of your final field.
