Baby Friendly Designation

Baby Friendly

Mount Carmel St. Ann’s has received the prestigious Baby-Friendly® Designation from Baby-Friendly USA – an honor that demonstrates our adherence to the highest standards of care for infant feeding and mother/baby bonding.

Those standards are built on a set of evidence-based practices recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) for optimal infant feeding support in the precious first days of a newborn’s life. Mount Carmel St. Ann’s is one of only 604 Baby-Friendly hospitals in the United States; less than 10% of hospitals in the country have earned this designation.

Baby-Friendly USA is dedicated to supporting breastfeeding while respecting every woman’s right to make the best decision for herself and her family. The organization conducts a rigorous review process to select its Baby-Friendly designees.

St. Ann’s has long been recognized as a leader in caring for women and newborns. This 5-year designation is a tribute to our entire Maternity Center team and their commitment to ensuring that every woman who delivers a baby here is given the resources, information and support she needs to give her baby the best, healthiest start in life.
