Mount Carmel Foundation’s Car Seat Program Receives $50,000 from Honda to Continue Supporting Central Ohio Families
September 7, 2025COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Mount Carmel Foundation’s Car Seat Safety program is strengthening its ability to continue life-saving work through a $50,000 contribution from Honda. The program has been a vital community resource since 2013, helping thousands of families across central Ohio keep their children safe on the road. It offers hands-on assistance to families to ensure their car seats are used and installed correctly. If families don’t have a car seat, the program provides one for them.
“This program has always been about supporting families in our community,” said Stephanie Simpkins, Nurse at Mount Carmel. “We are proud to offer car seat fittings, safety checks, and replacements throughout the city, including curbside appointments at our hospitals and large-scale community events that draw hundreds of families.”
Over 50 trained professionals, including Mount Carmel employees and volunteers, ensure every car seat is properly installed and safe for little ones. The nurses from Mount Carmel’s Welcome Home Program are also certified to check car seats during home visits, ensuring ongoing safety for newborns and infants.
“There are fewer and fewer places where families can get car seats fitted correctly,” said Simpkins. “We’re proud to fill that gap and grateful to Honda for helping us continue this work.”
Between Sept. 2023 and Oct. 2024, the Car Seat Program completed 341 car seat checks, provided 281 car seats at ten community and hospital events and averaged 160 hours per month working fitting stations. This work will continue thanks to generous donors, like Honda.
"Our support of the Mount Carmel Car Seat Program reflects our ‘Safety for Everyone’ philosophy, which extends beyond our vehicles to the communities we serve,” said Bobbie Trittschuh, manager of charitable giving, American Honda. “By helping families ensure their children are properly protected on the road, we’re proud to support a future where every journey begins with safety.”
While the program has long been sustained through the Mount Carmel Foundation and its generous community donors, gifts from colleagues and grateful patients, the contribution from Honda is further empowering the Foundation to continue its mission with renewed strength and reach.
