Women’s health unit to undergo renovations opening in early 2027

Columbus, Ohio – Mount Carmel Health System announced today a transformative renovation project at Mount Carmel St. Ann’s that will enhance the women’s health facilities and services. The upgraded spaces are scheduled to open in early 2027 and will reflect the system’s continued commitment to patient-centered care and clinical excellence.

The renovation highlights include updating the Nationwide Children’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), which will feature private rooms with shower facilities for families, alongside traditional ward-style layouts. It will also include a new Mount Carmel Medical Group midwife practice that expands access to personalized, holistic maternity care and the creation of a Ronald McDonald House respite space to support families with hospitalized newborns, offering comfort and convenience during extended stays.

Additional upgrades will be made to the newborn nursery and the second and third floors to improve functionality, aesthetics, and the overall family experience. The renovations will also bring an innovative low intervention birth unit to central Ohio. This unit will offer brand new suites on the first floor of the hospital that will be designed to provide a home-like, intervention-free birth experience for low-risk pregnancies.

“These new suites will be the ideal location for those seeking a comfortable, safe and natural birthing experience, while still having expert care and a NICU just steps away, if needed” said Erin Griggs, Regional Director, Women’s Health, Mount Carmel Health System. “This transformation reflects our ongoing commitment to excellence in women’s and newborn health.”

Renovations will begin shortly, with careful coordination to minimize disruption to patient care and staff operations.
