Doctors Day

Mount Carmel celebrates Doctors Day

Yesterday, across our entire health system, Mount Carmel proudly celebrated our extraordinary physicians in honor of Doctors’ Day 2026. While we are grateful for their dedication every single day, this occasion gives us a special moment to pause, reflect and amplify our appreciation for the remarkable caregivers who guide our patients through some of life’s most vulnerable and transformative moments.

National Doctors’ Day, observed annually on March 30, is a nationwide tribute to physicians—their expertise, their unwavering sense of responsibility, and their steadfast commitment to healing. It serves as a natural point of recognition for the essential role doctors play in the health and well-being of individuals, families, and communities. Whether offering reassurance during uncertainty, delivering life-changing diagnoses, or providing compassionate care at critical junctures, our physicians embody the very heart of our mission.

Keeping Babies Safe

Keeping babies safe with HUGS

Mount Carmel East, Grove City, and St. Ann’s are enhancing newborn security, giving new parents even greater peace of mind as they welcome their babies into the world. All three hospitals use HUGS, an infant security system that ensures caregivers always know a newborn’s location. The system is now being upgraded to expand monitoring from the unit level to the entire hospital, strengthening safety and supporting a seamless care experience for families.

“This is just the beginning of the transformation of care for mothers and babies,” says Sherri Strong, MSN, RN-NEA-BC, C-OB, C-EFM, Regional Director of Nursing Operations for Women & Infants. “At St. Ann’s—our busiest maternity hospital—we’re preparing for an extensive renovation. One of the most significant enhancements will be the transformation of our Nationwide Children’s NICU, which will feature private rooms so parents can stay close to their newborns, along with increased bed capacity. Our well baby nursery will receive a full refresh as well, and we will introduce a Ronald McDonald House respite area where families can rest and recharge while remaining close to their hospitalized babies.”

Planning for the Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Mother and Baby renovations is underway now. Watch for updates on this exciting project in future issues of Impact Insider.

Meet Libby Ballentine, MS, CAVS, CDVS, Operations Manager, Volunteer Services

Libby Ballentine

“Working with volunteers is such a rewarding experience. Each day I have the opportunity to connect with community members who want to give of themselves in the service of others. It’s wonderful to see volunteers gladly giving hundreds or even thousands of hours of their time to support our patients, visitors, and staff. They truly embody the core of our mission: we serve together.”

“I measure success by asking myself, “How have I positively impacted the volunteer program during my time with Mount Carmel?” I measure my success in the marks I’ve made on the program. I think about streamlining our orientation to an online sequence that creates a more efficient on-boarding process for prospective volunteers. And, I consider the development, placement and upkeep of our legacy volunteer boards. These boards allow Volunteer Services and the health system to honor longtime volunteers who have passed away. Success, for me, is seeing the program grow and flourish.”

“April is all about celebrating and honoring our volunteers during National Volunteer Month. I will be focusing on preparing for and successfully executing the various elements that go into celebrating our volunteers and increasing the visibility of the program.”
