Construction is underway at Mount Carmel New Albany for a new Emergency Department
Columbus, Ohio- In anticipation of the growing healthcare needs of the community, Mount Carmel Health System announced today the expansion of their New Albany facility to include a new emergency department. This project will expand emergency care services and further solidify Mount Carmel’s commitment to providing exceptional healthcare in the community.

The cutting-edge emergency department is set to open in Fall 2024. The new facility will house eight beds, including 5 standard emergency rooms, 1 trauma room, 1 sexual assault nurse examiner/person of size room, and 1 behavioral health room.

“The new emergency department will allow us to meet the evolving healthcare needs of our community, ensuring that residents have access to emergency care in their backyard,” said Diane Doucette, President & Chief Operating Officer of Mount Carmel New Albany, Lewis Center, St. Ann’s and Dublin. “The New Albany population is projected to grow by 5% over the next 5 years and this new emergency department allows us to anticipate the future needs of this area.”

The new emergency department will be led by Dr. Al Gora, Dr. Douglas Katula, and Dr. Adolph Lombardi, each of whom shared their excitement about this new facility:

“I look forward to partnering with current Mount Carmel resources to bring world class     emergency care provided by Board Certified Emergency Medicine physicians to the New     Albany community,” said Dr. Al Gora.

“December 2023 marked the 20th anniversary of the Mount Carmel New Albany Surgical     Hospital,” said Dr. Adolph Lombardi. “The new emergency department will afford better     opportunities to serve our patients who place their confidence in us. Additionally, we are     keenly aware of the growing population in this eastern corridor and welcome the         opportunity to take care of them here in New Albany.”

“This expansion underscores our commitment to the New Albany community and our     dedication to local healthcare accessibility,” said Dr. Douglas Katula. “We are grateful to     the community for their ongoing support, and we look forward to opening the new     addition in the Fall.”

Mount Carmel New Albany will continue to be a center of excellence for orthopedics and will maintain 24/7 access to lab and radiology services. The new addition will complement the existing services and create a comprehensive healthcare center for the community.
