LIVONIA, MICH./COLUMBUS, OH. (Dec. 20, 2023) — Trinity Health has announced that President and CEO of Mount Carmel Health System, Lorraine Lutton, will retire April 2024. Mount Carmel Health System Board and Trinity Health will immediately launch a national search for her successor.

Joining Mount Carmel just one month into the COVID-19 pandemic, Lutton successfully led the organization through the pandemic focusing on safely caring for patients, colleagues and the community. Through her unwavering leadership and commitment to patients and colleagues, Mount Carmel turned the corner on multiple challenges emerging from the pandemic stronger, furthering its Mission and serving the needs of its Central Ohio community.

“We knew the system needed a special leader who could lead transformation and move the ministry forward,” said Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Ben Carter. “Lorraine was that leader and her work set a standard of excellence that will undoubtedly continue to guide the organization.”

During Lutton’s tenure, Mount Carmel opened the Reynoldsburg Emergency Department and started construction on the new Mount Carmel Dublin Hospital which opens in 2025. Her dedication to safety and high-quality care led to reductions in hospital acquired infections, reduction of OSHA reportable colleague injuries and hospital readmission rates. At the same time, the ministry saw significant improvements in patient experience scores and colleague engagement.

“I am immensely proud of our work and the results the entire Mount Carmel team achieved together. It has been a privilege to lead such dedicated and caring colleagues,” Lutton said. “And, I’m absolutely certain Mount Carmel has a bright future and capable team to lead the way.”
