Bariatric Surgery and Non-Surgical Medical Weight Management

Bariatric Surgery Patient

Bariatric surgery isn’t about what you lose. It’s about what you gain. Whether that’s good health, greater energy, or self-esteem, losing weight can do more than change your size. It can change your life. At the Mount Carmel Bariatric Center, a MBSAQIP Accredited Center in Columbus, Ohio, that’s what we’re here to help you do.

The Mount Carmel Bariatric Center is accredited by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP), a part of the American College of Surgeons. MBSAQIP works to advance safe, high-quality care for bariatric surgical patients through the accreditation of bariatric surgical centers. Plus, our nationally accredited Bariatric Center performs the greatest number of minimally invasive robotic weight loss procedures in the Central Ohio area.

If you would prefer a non-surgical approach to weight management, Mount Carmel Health System and Central Ohio Surgical Associates (COSA) have partnered to create a new program designed to combine weight loss medications alongside diet and lifestyle modification to promote improved health outcomes. If interested, simply fill out our online pre-screening application form and, if eligible, COSA will contact you to schedule your initial consultation.

Do I Qualify For Bariatric Surgery?

Undergoing surgical treatment for weight loss is a major decision. It requires education, careful consideration and commitment to long-term lifestyle changes. It also requires you meet a wide range of criteria to be considered.

  • You must be over age 18 and past failed diet attempts are still relevant
  • You must have a Body Mass Index (BMI) greater than or equal to 35 regardless of the presence, absence, or severity of comorbidities
  • Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) need to have a BMI greater than or equal to 30
