JUNE 2026

Impact Insider, News and information from Mount Carmel Foundation

Men’s Health Month: Simple steps for better health

June is Men’s Health Month, and it’s an important reminder for the men and boys in your life to pause, take stock and make their health a priority. Life moves quickly, and it’s easy for wellness to slip to the bottom of the list. But small, consistent choices—like taking a morning walk, adding a couple of strength training sessions each week, or getting back to a favorite sport—can have a powerful impact on heart health, energy levels and overall well-being.

This month also highlights the value of preventive care. Regular check ups and age appropriate screenings are essential tools for staying healthy. Many conditions, especially those related to the heart, develop quietly without early symptoms. Routine visits with a healthcare provider help identify concerns sooner, support long term health planning and give men the information they need to stay well at every stage of life.

To make staying on track even easier, Mount Carmel has created a simple, age based chart outlining key steps men should take to protect their health. It’s a quick, practical reference you can share with the men in your life.

Celebrate Independence Day with a fresh, healthy menu

Fourth of July celebrations don’t have to mean heavy meals or sugar packed sides. This year, bring color, flavor and nutrition to your holiday table with a menu that’s as festive as the fireworks.

Summer produce is at its peak, making it the perfect time to build your spread around fresh fruits, crisp vegetables and plant forward dishes that keep everyone feeling energized. Whether you’re hosting a backyard cookout or heading to a potluck, simple, wholesome recipes can help you celebrate the holiday without sacrificing flavor.

To make planning even easier, Aimee Shea, MPH, RDN, CCMS, LD, nutrition specialist at Mount Carmel’s von Zychlin Healthy Living Center, has curated a few delicious, better-for-you options that fit right into any Independence Day gathering:

These recipes bring balance to your holiday menu while keeping the spirit of the celebration front and center—good food, good company and a healthy start to the second half of summer.

Colleagues step up in a big way for the 2026 Colleague Giving Campaign

The spirit of generosity is alive and well at Mount Carmel. This year, our colleagues came together in an extraordinary way during the 2026 Colleague Giving Campaign, demonstrating just how deeply they believe in our Mission and the people we serve.

Their compassion resulted in more than $434,000 in colleague contributions. These gifts support Mission-critical programs that care for our patients, colleagues, physicians and the most vulnerable members of our community.

Because of this remarkable participation, the Foundation’s 50 cent on the dollar match was fully unlocked—adding $217,169 specifically for Community Health & Well-Being programs. In total, the campaign generated an inspiring $651,169.

This outpouring of support reflects the heart of Mount Carmel: people who show up for one another and for their community every single day. We are grateful for their dedication and for everyone in our community who partners with us to advance compassionate care.

Meet Alison Jones, Senior Development Officer

For Alison Jones, every day at the Mount Carmel Foundation begins and ends with one thing: people. As she reflects on what she enjoys most about her work, her answer comes easily. “Because of my work with the Foundation, I’ve been given the gift of meeting some incredible people,” she shares. From colleagues across the health system to students at Mount Carmel College of Nursing (MCCN), and especially the donors whose generosity fuels the mission. Alison finds inspiration in the stories they tell. “Whether it’s a family’s connection to MCCN or a loved one’s experience with Hospice, the gratitude and passion they have is told in the stories they share.”

For Alison, success isn’t measured in numbers alone. It’s measured in impact. “Everything we do and every success we experience at the Foundation is measured in service to the Mission,” she says. “Knowing I get to be a small part of making that Mission a reality for people in central Ohio is the greatest measure of success.”

Looking ahead, Alison is focused on two major priorities: supporting the Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Women’s Health Transformation, and advancing scholarship fundraising for MCCN. Both efforts reflect what she values most—strengthening care, expanding opportunity, and ensuring the Mount Carmel Mission continues to reach those who need it most.
