robotics surgery

Technology continues to improve medical procedures of all types, and one of the most advanced of those is robotic-assisted surgery. Mount Carmel has embraced these advancements, using the da Vinci robotic surgery system to perform the procedures at Mount Carmel Dublin, Mount Carmel East, Mount Carmel Grove City, and Mount Carmel St. Ann’s.

How is robotic surgery different from minimally invasive surgery?

Robotic assisted surgery is an advanced form of minimally invasive surgery that gives surgeons an even greater level of precision, control, and flexibility. Using a specialized robotic system, your surgeon operates through tiny incisions while viewing the surgical site in high definition, 3D detail. The robotic arms can rotate and maneuver with a wider range of motion than the human hand, allowing for highly delicate, complex movements that enhance accuracy and consistency.

While robotic surgery offers many benefits—including smaller incisions, less discomfort, and faster recovery—it isn’t the right approach for every condition or every patient. Traditional minimally invasive techniques may be more appropriate in some situations, and in others, open surgery may still be the safest option.
We encourage you to talk with your physician surgeon about the best surgical approach for your unique needs. Together, you can determine the option that offers the safest, most effective path to your recovery.

Patient Benefits

By utilizing tiny surgical instruments that move with greater range of motion in extremely small spaces and providing a clear, magnified, 3D, high-definition view of the surgical area, this system the surgical robot allows our experienced surgeons to perform incredibly precise, minimally invasive procedures that:

  • Produce less pain and scarring
  • Allow quicker recoveries
  • Result in fewer complications
  • Deliver better overall outcomes

At Mount Carmel, we offer robotic-assisted procedures, including:

At Mount Carmel, we understand that preparing for surgery can bring up a lot of questions — and we’re here to support you every step of the way. If you’re considering robotic‑assisted surgery or simply want to get a better sense of what the experience looks like, the video below is a great place to start. It walks you through what to expect before, during, and after your procedure, helping you feel informed, confident, and fully supported.

PRE-OP CONSULTATION

Meet with your surgeon to review medical history, the surgical procedure, potential risks, benefits and alternatives — blood work and scans will be performed to prepare for surgery

PRE-OP PREP

Get clear instructions on fasting, medications and other necessary prep. Feel prepared for what’s next.

SURGERY

After admission, you’ll gown up, meet your anesthesiologist and receive anesthesia based on your specific surgery. Then our experts use robotic systems to make small incisions that have a big impact.

POST-OP

We’ll monitor your progress in the recovery area. Although lengths of stay vary, outpatient surgery recipients go home on the same day — equipped with strategies and medications to manage any post-op discomfort.

RECOVERY AND FOLLOW-UP

Care doesn’t end after surgery. Through follow-up appointments, we’ll track healing progress and offer guidance on getting back to living life through physical therapy and other assistance.
